It refers to inorganic substances that dissolve or suspend in water for various reasons and deposit on the surface of metals.


Cooling water is rich in unstable salts, such as calcium bicarbonate. When heated on the wall of the heat exchange tube, it will transform into dense hard deposits such as calcium carbonate and regularly deposit on the tube wall. Its heat transfer efficiency is only about 1% of that of carbon steel. That is to say, if a 0.5mm thick hard scale is deposited on the wall of the heat exchange tube, the wall thickness of the heat exchange tube will increase by 50mm, which seriously hinders normal heat transfer, increases energy consumption, and thus has a negative impact on production, causing a significant impact on the load and even stopping.


The treatment agent of the circulating cooling water system can reduce the growth of sludge and soft scale, hinder heat transfer, and reduce equipment corrosion, especially pitting accidents;

The mucus produced by microbial reproduction metabolism (with strong viscosity, such as glue) is intertwined with suspended solids and microbial corpses in circulating water (supplied water entering, cooling tower exhaust cooling water flushing, air dust entering), and adheres to the equipment wall with water flow. Soon, a layer of greasy scale will form, which is called a loose and porous surface.

Soft scale. The soft scale attached to the wall of the heat exchange tube is a poor thermal conductivity material (with a small thermal conductivity coefficient, only 1% of that of stainless steel), which can significantly reduce the heat transfer effect and affect the production load.


Pitting occurs


The soft scale layer is loose and porous, forming a good oxygen permeable channel. In high conductivity batteries (rich in salt), a large number of small concentration difference batteries are formed. Each small battery is a point where electrochemical reactions occur, thereby accelerating the occurrence of equipment pitting. For a long time, deep corrosion perforation accidents have occurred frequently.

In the circulating water system, the main corrosion is chemical or electrochemical corrosion of dissolved oxygen. This type of corrosion not only damages the water cooling equipment or shortens the service life of the system, but also causes perforation of the water cooler due to corrosion, resulting in process medium leakage and unplanned shutdown. In addition, due to corrosion, it can cause corrosion, leading to a decrease in heat exchange efficiency or the risk of pipeline blockage.
